Poetry + Spoken Word

Putting words to experiences that can be difficult to recognise, explain or say out loud.

My poetry and spoken word

I write and perform spoken word poetry about the things we feel, the things we hide and the things we sometimes struggle to put into words.

From people-pleasing, relationships and emotional abuse to identity, belonging, joy and finding your voice, my poetry is inspired by lived experiences, human connection and the everyday moments that make us who we are.

WHY POETRY?

So much of my work, whether through therapy, speaking or writing, comes back to putting words to experiences people sometimes struggle to explain.

As a psychotherapist, I spend a lot of time helping people make sense of their experiences. Poetry gives me another way to explore them.

Sometimes psychology helps us understand an experience. Poetry helps us feel it.

And there's something really powerful about someone hearing a line and saying, "That's exactly how I've felt, but I've never known how to explain it."

That's what I love about poetry. Sometimes a few lines can say what an entire conversation couldn't.

Live spoken word

I share my poetry live at spoken-word nights, open mics, festivals and events across Manchester and Glossop.

Previous slots have included Band on the Wall, Manchester during Spit Nights, Fearne Cotton’s Happy Place Festival during my sold-out workshop ‘From Too much to Enough’ and a poetry-led talk whilst opening Glossop Women’s Festival.

I’m available for spoken-word and poetry slots at festivals, arts and literary events, wellbeing programmes, women’s events, retreats and online events.

If you think my work could fit your event, you’re welcome to get in touch.

  • "That spoke to the little boy in me - you said what he and I needed to hear"

  • You capture something that sadly a lot of women will relate to. The more it's spoken about the better!

  • Thank you - your words speak to my soul

  • I have never heard anyone describe exactly what I went through - people just don't get it unless they've lived it. I used to think I was going mad. Thank you for your words.
